Hasty Decisions trigger untold regrets

Avoid hasty decisions

Hasty work and premature decisions may lead to penalties out of all proportion to the issues immediately involved.

Winston Churchill

We live in a fast-paced world where we are always expected to “keep up”.   Some of us will even quote “carpe diem” to justify it.  Seize the opportunity as soon as possible!  You snooze, you lose!

But the true meaning of “carpe diem” is not about taking bold action upon your instinct.  Quite the opposite – it is more about taking pleasure in the moment because we don’t quite know what tomorrow holds.

When we are always in a rushing mode, jumping from one activity to the next, we give ourselves little time to understand why we are doing what we are doing.

This is even more so when we are blinded by our emotions.  When we are sad, anxious, or angry, we are propelled by our emotions to “act out”.  We might feel cathartic at first but regret very quickly because the “acting out” leads to more damage and troubles down the road.

As the days get shorter and colder, trees lose their leaves.  No one thinks of cutting the trees down because it appears they are dying.

Emotions are temporary.  So slow down – and try not to make a permanent decision in an emotional moment.
