March 11 marked the one-year anniversary of the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic. The world was forever changed because of this tiny virus. All of us have suffered from tragic loss yet the future remains uncertain in many ways. Sometimes we wonder, will we ever get through this? Will we be free and happy again?
The answer is yes, and we don’t have to wait until the pandemic is over.
Humanity has survived many dark periods in history and managed to find joy and beauty during turmoil. The key is to realize that joy springs from gratefulness. We become joyful as we come to accept and appreciate all the little things in life. We learn something new from a challenge and cherish the good things that we have received. Being grateful lets us to be more in tune with our life, which in turns brings us more joy.
So as we are onto year 2 of a global pandemic – allow ourselves to properly grieve our losses, but please also take time to count the blessings too.
